My new job in the C&M Department
Throughout my years of working for graphic design related jobs, my newest one is my favorite. This past August, I started working for the Communication and Marketing department for Ohio Northern. I’ve only been working here for 2 months and I can already tell my graphic design skills have improved.
My first career related job was being apart of the yearbook committee for my high school during my junior and senior years. I was chosen as lead editor my senior year and this was when I realized I was heading in the right direction for my career from how much I enjoyed it. My second job was being apart of the yearbook committee for ONU. I worked there for 3 years and had the opportunity to design the cover of the 2020 yearbook. My third job was working for Polar Merchandise at ONU. This was much different from past jobs and strengthened my communication skills between clients and the sale reps. My fourth job was working in the graphics office for the Wilson Football Factory. This was my first professional adult job which was nice but showed me I don’t like repetitive work. Finally, my newest job working for the C&M department.
C&M is much different from past jobs because I am designing within the schools branding. I like this because all of my design elements are already decided for me. For example, the school primary fonts are Neutra Face and Memphis and we have a selected color palette to work in. So far, I have designed newsletters, email headers, alumni event invitations, admissions event directory signs, a billboard on route 235, info graphics, graduation gonfalons and so much more.
This job is so cool and is the first job I’ve had that I don’t dread going to. I love how I have the opportunity to design things for the college I go to and get to see my designs throughout campus. I’m so grateful for this position and hope to work for a university’s communications and marketing department for my full time job in the future.
