Sunflower Trip

I posted this piece in my first blog post but wanted to talk about it again since I didn’t discuss my process of creating it in the first post. This piece is called Sunflower Trip. I wanted it to portray the look over other psychedelic art pieces, while using Copic markers.

I wanted to challenge myself with this piece so I wanted to add as much detail as I could to show my true potential with exploring other styles of art. I loved the idea of collaging sunflowers, eyes, mushrooms, and a few other surprises such as a lunar moth, a pair of frogs, a fairy, and a koi fish! I also wanted to explore in using a lot of different vibrant colors.

My younger brother, Josh, let me barrow all of his nice Copic markers. They are two sided with a thicker tip and with the other side being a fine point tip. I also loved the idea of going all around the edges of the poster board. I wanted to make it feel like you were spinning from trying to focus on all of the other objects in the picture.

Another thing I did to this piece was what I did with the background. I didn’t want to leave it plain or just one solid color so I decided to use a thin point sharpie marker and make my own pattern. That part definitely took the longest but I feel like was most necessary to pull the piece all together!
