My Professional Design Identity

This week in my Professional Practices in Design class, my classmates and I have been working on designing our own professional design identity. A designers personal branding is very important to their career because it’s how we brand ourselves and the services we offer. This was very challenging for me because I still don’t have a direct plan of where I am going with my graphic design major. I like everything from web design, production/factory design, freelance design, small business design etc. So it makes it more challenging to focus my personal branding on one specific type of design.

First, we were to answer questions about ourselves like: Why do you design? What’s your reason for getting out of bed in the morning and wanting to do what you do? What do you hope your work as designer will accomplish? What value do you bring to an assignment, studio, agency or client? What value do you promise to deliver? After answering these questions I realized what makes me stand out from other designers.

One of my strengths that makes me stand out from other designers is that I am a perfectionist and meticulous. I pay very close attention to small detail and will work hours on end fixing pixel by pixel. Another thing about my design, I want to design for change and unity. I want to design with a voice for those who don’t. My professional personality is very calm and easy to work with. After working and trying to figure out my personal branding, I decided to incorporate those key factors of my design. I design for change and unity, I am a perfectionist and meticulous and I am calm and easy to work with.

I used the symbolism of a triangle in my personal logo because a triangle is known for it’s perfectness and structured unity. My color palette is different shades of blush pink representing my calm and collected professional personality. I believe my final designs for my professional identity truly communicate how I am as a designer.
