Polar Merchandise
I have a lot of on campus jobs. I work as a receptionist for the Arts and Sciences Dean’s office in Dukes and for the Financial Aid office in Weber. I also work as a graphic designer for the Yearbook committee and Polar Merchandise. I’ve been working all of these jobs since my freshman year and I love them! Polar Merchandise is the least known of and the one I get the most questions about so I thought I would share about what it is and what I do!
Second semester of my freshman year, right before covid, a senior graphic design student came up to me and said they were hiring new graphic designers for a merchandise organization run by student business majors that needed help from other student graphic design majors. I was told I will get paid, its very good for experience, and it will look good in my portfolio for future jobs. I took the initiative and emailed the “president” of the organization and emailed him that I was interested in the job position before he was able to post the job listening on polar careers. He was impressed I was that interested in joining so I got the job! I was trained by that same senior graphic design student who told me about the job in the first place!
Polar Merch is made up of 8 business majors who deal with people who want tee shirts, crew necks, sweaters, face masks etc. They also handle all of the money from the orders as well. There are only 2 graphic designs, myself and fellow classmate Devyn Croston! Once there is an order in place we are emailed with an assignment to create what the customers need. Sometimes its to change their logo into a vector illustrator file and other times its creating clothing designs.
I included some of my favorite design projects that I have made over the years through this organization. The first one is an ONU Christmas sweater. The second one is a shirt that my past sorority needed, Kappa Alpha Theta. The third one was a tee shirt design created for the yearbook staff. Fourth is a PRSSA face mask that I designed over the summer of 2020. Fifth was a basic style northern business crew neck. Sixth was the senior Dicke bar crawl event thrown for senior business majors. The seventh one was another long sleeved design for Kappa Alpha Theta. The eighth one another Christmas sweater. And the final one was a tee shirt pocket design for the ONU volleyball team.

Annaleia! I think it's fascinating that you are a creative designer and can create these logos that are sellable! I've heard of Polar merchandising and I have always wanted to buy something since there are limited options in the bookstore. I'm glad you wrote about this, now I have an excuse to buy something! Also, if I ever need a shirt or sweatshirt for an organization I know who to ask! The designs look amazing and I can't wait to see more in the future!
ReplyDeleteHey Annaleia! I absolutely love all the design work you have made for polar merchandise! As I have said before, you are such a creative individual with a talent unlike many others. I am also very happy you recruited me to work for Polar Merchandise because, as you said, it is great experience and a great portfolio builder.
