Glass Reflection Piece
In my last post about my art, I shared a piece from my concentration side of my senior portfolio and this blog post I will be sharing about a piece from my strengths side of my portfolio. To recalibrate, my portfolio consisted of 24 final projects, 12 for my concentration and 12 assigned to me by my teacher. The 12 assigned by my teacher are called strength pieces because its supposed to show your strengths while using all different types of medias.
The piece I wanted to share this week is called Glass Reflection. This project we were given glass items such as bowls, cups, flower pots, perfume bottles, etc. I chose to do a smooth tall flower vase, a small glass jewelry bowl, and a wide textured flower pot. We were to arrange them to overlap to make it more challenging and were given a bright light that we could move around to show drastic light and shadow contrast. Usually when you start an art project you start on white paper and draw shadow but this project was opposite. We were given a big piece of black paper and used white chalk to draw only the highlights from the light.
This piece was very difficult and frustrating to create because when using chalk you couldn’t place your hand on the paper without the chalk smudging. It took me two weeks to finish and even though that’s a long time, I still look back at it today and think if I worked on it a little bit longer it would’ve looked so much better. Overall, I really enjoyed how it came out and ended up being one of my strongest pieces on my strength side of my portfolio.
Hi Annaleia! Your artwork is absolutely beautiful. I was just scrolling through your blog and the aesthetic put a smile on my face. Your senior project with 24 different pieces reminded me a lot of what I need to prepare for my sophomore hearing as a Musical Theatre major (except I will be doing songs and monologues rather than visual art). I always forget how many similarities can be found between the visual and performing arts - even in how our assessments are set up.
ReplyDeleteAnnaleia, I don't know much about painting or even art in general, but the fact that you can just paint from looking at objects is amazing! I can't even imagine how difficult it took for you to draw that glass, vase, and bowl. It is so cool you get to share your passion like this! I loved reading your blog !
ReplyDeleteThis piece is absolutely amazing, and the fact that using white charcoal is considered a strength for you is even more impressive. I believe you and I did similar projects in Melissa's classes that focused on reflective objects and the utilization of different medias, and you performed well on those too. Keep it up! I can't wait for more posts!
